Many of the people who come to see me are depressed and frustrated. My clients often feel very isolated, and in spite of their best efforts they just can’t seem to pull out of this state. In a similar vein, in their relationships they keep ending up in the same unhealthy and toxic patterns. Does any of this resonate?
With my 25-plus years of experience as a psychologist and psychotherapist, I can accompany and guide you to heal yourself. In my Jerusalem and Tel Aviv clinics, I offer services and specialize in three main areas: Individual psychotherapy, couples therapy, and parent consulting.
Individual Psychotherapy
Do you suffer or struggle with…?
- Anxiety
- Depression
- ADHD
- Sleep difficulties and insomnia
- Stress
- Trauma
- Excessive anger
- Low self-esteem and low self-worth
- Grief and loss
- Food and body issues
As a psychologist and psychotherapist working with hundreds of clients, I have found that “just” talking about what is bothering you is not enough. To feel better and to move on we need to get to the core of what is really going on. One of the best ways to achieve this is to focus on the here and now and to use your emotions as a “compass”. In our sessions we explore what you are experiencing in the moment, in the session, as a gateway to accessing your deeper needs. As an adjunct, and where appropriate, holistic therapies may be incorporated into our sessions.
In your marriage or relationships do you…
- Feel invalidated by your partner every time you try to express what you feel and what is on your mind?
- Feel trapped in never-ending battles, arguments, disagreements, and fights that seem to leave you exhausted, “bruised”, and no further ahead?
Do you long to feel heard, understood, close, safe, and loved?
Couples therapy can be a powerful and effective way to improve how you relate to your partner or spouse.
Caring, empathic, non-judgmental help is available for you.
In sessions I work with the Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT for couples) model. Based on bonding theory, EFT can help you build better and stronger connections with your partner. The focus is on your in-the-moment feelings and experience, and on the ongoing “dances” between you and your partner or spouse. This provides a powerful and effective way to work towards feeling heard and understood.
A goal of Emotionally Focused Therapy for couples is to clear the air of “emotional contamination”, and to create an emotional climate conducive to getting your needs and wishes met. Using the empirically-validated EFT model as a “map”, I assist you and your partner to feel closer and more connected, and to feel heard, validated and understood. In our therapy sessions, I guide you through the often rocky, emotionally dangerous, and confusing terrain of intimate personal relating.
As a parent, do you feel totally overwhelmed, exhausted, and exasperated?
Are you caught in seemingly ongoing frustrating battles with your children, where everyone ends up feeling disconnected and upset?
Although you might feel at your wits end and desperate, there is hope.
There is a way to rise above this. I can help.
You can learn to “dance” gracefully with your children, without stepping on each other’s toes.
Through an approach developed and modified over the past 25 years that I call Conscious Parenting I give you tools to influence and change the way you relate to your children. Conscious Parenting incorporates being mindful, thinking systems, attachment theory, and a holistic and healthy lifestyle.
In our sessions or parent groups you can regain the sense of being in control. The goal is to create a more peaceful and harmonious home, and to feel closer and more connected to your children.
About Dr. Richman
Hi, my name is Rafael Richman. I am trained as a clinical psychologist and psychotherapist and I am passionate about helping my clients improve their lives, gain choice and flexibility. Through my years of experience, I know that the best way to help in therapy is to authentically and fully listen to you and your pain.
The process of psychotherapy is a joint venture. A two-way commitment to this work is the best way to achieve the results that you deserve. After an initial getting-to-know-each-other session, we usually meet once a week or once every other week. Individual sessions are 60 minutes. Couples and family sessions are longer, 75-90 minutes. Fees vary according to length of session, to be discussed on the phone or email before we meet, or during our first session. My offices are located in Jerusalem and Tel Aviv. Therapy, counselling, and consulting sessions are also available online.
If any of the above speaks to you, please feel free to reach out and contact me for a 10-minute phone consultation. When we talk we can decide how best to continue.
